Carrie Broughton
I began my career as a Flight Attendant with Wardair Canada in the mid-80s. Despite the uniform's bowler hat and A-line skirt, I truly felt like an International Air Hostess. Toward the end of that decade I moved on to Canada 3000 Airlines where I was hired as one of their first 20 Cabin Crew. I left behind the robin's egg blue uniform for a hounds tooth blazer, pleated skirt and black leather gloves. I was fortunate to operate as a Senior Flight Attendant, then Purser, Recruiter and Trainer, Manager of Policies and Procedures, and finally as Director of Cabin Services. Upon leaving Canada 3000, I continued to work in managerial positions at SkyService, Air Canada, Sky Regional and Aerobee. At these latter two, I was Director of Cabin Operations and am proud to have been one of eight individuals to have helped build the airlines from the ground up from plans-on-paper to moving passengers throughout North America.
While working for these carriers, I taught part-time at Seneca College. In 2015, when I finally retired from the airlines, I took on the new challenge of Program Coordinator and full-time Professor for Flight Services. I revamped the program to one which sets students up for success in the airline industry and specifically for their Initial Training programs. I want nothing more than to ensure Flight Services graduates are prepared, confident, and excited to pursue their dream. I lived mine; I want nothing more than to see them live theirs.
