Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between FSO and FLS?

The Flight Services program has two branches available for student selection: FSO and FLS. See our Programs tab for detailed information on each.

FSO is a four-semester Diploma Program that delves into the airline industry; specifically the Flight Attendant position. The program blends theory with practical exercises, and discusses both safety (in the first two semesters) and emergency procedures (in the last two semester). This program is best suited for individuals confident in their decision to join the airline industry as a Crewmember as it prepares them for an airline's Initial Training Course. Students will use state-of-the-art equipment to strengthen their learning. Seneca College is proud to offer a live fire-fighting centre, an A320 door and overwing simulator, a B737 full cabin simulator, and a double lane evacuation slide. Tools such as these greatly increase a student’s confidence and they enhance their abilities in handling challenging emergency situations.

FLS is a two-semester Certificate Program targeted towards those who want to explore opportunities in the airline industry. It is focused primarily on aviation safety and the roles and responsibilities of multiple airline employees, most notably, Flight Attendants. Students enrolled in FLS will develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to pursue a rewarding career in the service-driven aviation industry.  A variety of policies, procedures and regulatory standards will be discussed as adherence to these assure a safe aircraft environment. Also covered are essential techniques that ensure passengers enjoy an exceptional onboard experience.

What are some of the career paths out of this program?

When you graduate from the Flights Programs, these are some of the types of career options you can explore: Flight Attendant, Customer Sales Agent, Concierge, Check-In or Gate Agent.

Is there a uniform? Where can I get it?

As an aspiring industry professional, you will study and work in a Seneca branded uniform helping you feel job-ready from the start. You must purchase the uniform at an additional cost from designer Laura DiMarcello who has created a uniform specific for our program.

There are grooming standards outlined in your grooming handbook which you will receive at Orientation.

Students who began their program online due to COVID-19 will not need to purchase a uniform until in-class courses resume. These students must have proper grooming and professional attire for all recorded drills and any virtual meetings for classes.

Students who began their program before COVID-19 must wear their uniforms in all recorded drills and any virtual meetings for classes.

I am still in high school. What are the admission requirements for the Flights programs?

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent; and Grade 12 C or U English, or equivalent

Although not required for admission, Grade 11 French and/or proficiency in a second language is highly beneficial for this program.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents may satisfy the English requirements for this program through successful Seneca pre-admission testing. If you don’t meet these requirements, click this link.

If you are a mature applicant, click this link for more information on admission requirements.

What time of year can I begin this program?

The FSO (2-year diploma) and FLS (8-month certificate) programs start in September, January, and May.

What campus are the Flights programs at?

Flight Services is offered at Markham campus until the end of Winter 2020. From Summer 2020 onward, the programs will be delivered at Newnham campus. Due to COVID-19, all courses are being delivered asynchronously through the online platform Blackboard Collaborate.

As an international student, can I apply for a position as a Flight Attendant once I graduate?

Unfortunately, most Canadian carriers will only interview applicants for Flight Attendant positions if the individuals already hold a Canadian passport. In addition to this, Flight Attendants are required to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card and this is only achievable if the RCMP are able to verify that the applicant has resided at a Canadian address for more than five years. Students are encouraged to research the minimum requirements each airline has, as an education from Seneca will not supersede those dictated by the airlines.
